Our Story
Genoa Italy Hutchins-Ross was born April 14, 1905 in Rison, Arkansas. Each morning, she would put on a pair of “earbobs” before going to work in the cafe that she and her husband, Edmund Ross, owned. No matter how she felt or what she looked like, she never left the house without earrings. This is the legacy that birthed The Genoa Company.
Created in 2019 by Genoa’s great-granddaughter Lydia Seale, The Genoa Co. aims to become the premier online shop for classy, conversation-starting statement earrings that elevate women’s confidence and add flair to every outfit. Each one of our collections is meticulously curated to offer something for every woman.

The Garden Project
As Black entrepreneurs and land owners, Genoa and Ed Ross believed that it was their responsibility to care for their community, particularly those in need. Each season, Genoa and Ed would set aside a portion of their garden to feed those in need within their community.
Genoa’s Garden Project codifies our commitment to donating 10% of every purchase to organizations that serve women and children in need within the city of Flint, Michigan.
